Ken Block Trophy
1995 CAPTAIN'S REPORT
This report was originally written by Ken Block, captain at the time.
Another good year for Superstars Cricket Club as the team's performances relied less on one or two individuals' efforts. The whole team managed at one time or another to make contributions.
We managed to play 23 games this year, losing twice, with two being abandoned halfway through. Of the teams we played, BOCs provided no real opposition losing the series to us 6-0 yet again, Dodgers who we beat 4-0, DST who we beat 2-1, OSD who we beat 2-0, with the final game abandoned halfway due to rain. We also beat a Darren Cooper VIII. The Dept of Heritage gained revenge for the defeat we inflicted on them last year by stuffing us out of sight. We also played 5 new teams this year of varied ability, DoE Stats, New Eltham CC, Flower and Firkin, DSS and the Lord Chancellor's Dept. The game against the FLower was abandoned due to poor light, but we won the rest.
As far as individual performances were concerned, on the bowling front the number of wickets taken by Superstars players was impressive, with four bowlers taking 23 wickets each- Neil, Phil, Tom and myself, Andy was only 2 behind on 21, abd 3 other bowlers took 10 or more. The batting of the team, which in the past had relied on Barry, found new heroes this year, Tony Whitrod who won at least two games on his own and poised to become the third player to a 1000 runs, if he doesn't leave, Steve Meyler who became the second player to reach a 1000 runs, with Paul, Terry, Mike T, Neil, Matthew, James and Barry making contributions when required, although not all at the same time.
The team seems to be going from strength to strength, although I do detect that some team members are unhappy about certain things. All I can say to them in my defence is that I do try and involve everybody in each game they play, it doesn't always work, but it has in the majority of cases. I am open to suggestions for improvement.
On the following pages you will find a review of the players, this has been compiled by Phil, except his own, which was done by Andy Jacobs. You will also find the match statistics (game by game), this seasons, and all time averages for batting, bowling and catching.
We need to decide for next season our Captain and Vice-Captain. Unless I hear anything to the contary it will remain as it is now. I hope you all have good Chrismas and look forward to 1996.
Ken Block.
