Match Report
DUGGAN DEFEATED IN EXCELLENT MATCH
A new fixture saw a 10-a-side 18 over match on astroturf with Duggan featuring for St Peter’s to balance the sides. Superstars won the toss and batted first.
A strong start by Sajjan (25 retd.), Conway (25 Retd.) and Farnham (26 retd.) saw Superstars on 79 at the halfway point. Patwal (18) Meyler (17 n.o.) Plahe (4) and Bard (10 n.o) could not quite keep the rate up on the second half. Steve Meyler’s comedy attempts at a reverse sweep off Duggan (2-0-9-0) gifted him 2 dot balls. In any case, 140-2 looked like a strong total.
St Peter’s innings suffered an early setback as Konrad (3-0-12-1) bowled Young with a great in-swinger before a run was scored. However the run rate increased over the following overs, helped by a number of extras as Ali (3-0-25-1) and Jones (2-0-22-0) struggled for control. After 9 overs St Peter’s were 73 and very much in the game. However, with the dangerous Saxby (28 retd.) forced to retire, Plahe (4-0-20-0), Bard (2-0-11-0), Farnham (2-0-4-2 and Conway (2-0-14-0) put the squeeze on the St Peter’s lower order and brought home the first victory of the season by 12 runs.
Both sides enjoyed the game and this should be a fixture we look to repeat next season.
