Match Report
SUPERSTARS PUT OUT TO DRY IN RICHMOND
Miraculously we had 11 for our annual trip to Richmond Green (although Green it wasn't). Rare sightings of the Varghese father and son (Joseph), while Ollie playing his first match of the season had brought Perkin for his debut.
After a bit of uncertainty in finding the least worst strip, the match started.
We bowled first, naturally, and a new ball partnership of Ollie and John B struggled to find consistent rhythm, with a few too many full tosses. Barry then called on the slower bowlers and took a couple of sharp stumpings off Gidwani and Duggan, to get into the middle order. Varghese junior bowled beautifully and a flghted yorker disposed of their dangerous No.4 before he could do any damage. Roy and Ben were tidy enough, without being able to make any breakthroughs to the tail. Prince's Head were trying to accelerate and despite another wicket for Duggan in his second spell and a Mankad off the penultimate ball, they reached 222 off 35 overs.
(Subject to formal analytical confirmation, Duggan's wickets took him past 200 for the club.)
Perkin (who had to leave early) and Arun opened our reply. A couple of lusty blows from Perkin in particular put us briefly ahead of the run rate, but he was out soon after. Matt C fell victim to a good yorker and when Arun top edged a second skier to the wicket keeper, it was difficult to see who could score the runs we needed. Joseph batted with great technique and Ben and John stuck around, but in truth the innings subsided despite a few shots from Barry and Ollie down the order. We were all out and lost by 97 runs.
