Match Report
SUPERSTARS BELIEVE BUT AS LASSOED
A team of 12 composed of old lags (Conway, Bishop, Sajjan, Duggan, Plahe), fresh new faces (Adnaan, Suleiman, Craig, Jai) and a few ringers/waifs-and-strays eventually (usual issues with trains etc.) arrived at Richmond Green under grey skies.
Matt as skipper (by default) had won the toss but abdicated responsibility to the opposition’s captain on the grounds that he had no clue about what most of his team did.
Jai, returning to the scene of his triumph last year, opened the bowling with sharp pace, while at the other end there was a struggle to find line and length with plenty of extras to boost the opposition’s run rate. While we did manage to rein it back a bit and take a few wickets with the aid of the usual Richmond Green erratic bounce, Prince’s Head accelerated towards the end of their innings to a final score of 228, which felt like plenty.
Superstars’ batters faced a Prince’s Head attack that kept a tidy line and length, so the variable bounce had more effect. Under scoreboard pressure we had to go for some shots and at the half-way point we were marginally ahead of where PH had been at that point , but several more wickets down. We subsided fairly quickly thereafter to lose by a round 100 runs.
As usual fun playing with an involuntary crowd of onlookers who even applauded at odd points. The beers standing on the pavement afterwards were also a pleasure.
