Match Report
PROUD SUPERSTARS OUTCLASSED
Superstar arrived at Chiswick knowing they faced an uphill battle like Scotland did in Euro2024 in a match we'd watch later. Skipper Paul GA won the toss and elected to bat on the artificial wicket that we were, again, forced to play on with it's stupid boundary lines.
Matthew C started at a blistering pace, returning to the "pavillion" (aka pile of bags) after 16 deliveries. Arun S took a little longer but also retired. AFter that good start Superstars never quite kicked on but Ben B, Aarron, and Matt B scored runs while Harry D scored his first runs for the club. Paul and Gary tried to add late impetus, although the lack of running by Gary off the last ball was noted by the average protection unit. 120 felt shot but it was runs on the board.
The Stars needed a good start and although Jubril bowled well, ably backed up by "The Arch" runs came and wickets didn't. It was the introduction of Dan and Gary that bought wickets with Dan making the initial inroad with a caught and bowled and then a smart catch from "wicket keeper" Paul GA (who obviously didn't miss a stumping). Gary's wicket was from a steepling catch by Ben B. And although Superstars were "in the game" they were never ahead of the game and when turncoat and Player of the Match Sam Farnham hot the accelerator even the likes of Aarron and Matthew C were unable to prevent Agricola reacing their target in the 18th over.
So another loss for Superstars but many positives. The fielding again was lively and I don't remember a dropped catch. The bowling was decent and probably a little bit unwarded. The batting was probably a bit timid after an excellent start but it's great to see new players making an impact. And good to see a strong turnout in the post match analysis.

Notes
Harry scored his first runs for Superstars.
Ben B took a steppling catch, Paul GA one as keeper.
A mild case of average protection when Gary turned down a single off the last ball, it was unlikely but possible.
