1998 NORTH DEVON TOUR REPORT |

Superstars stayed in a very pink hotel in Dulverton for the N Devon tour and played two games. The non-cricket noteable events were that
Raina joined us (not Suresh) and Siva's driving on small winding roads (no casualaties were reported but various players are still requiring counselling). Hotel was in the middle of nowhere
but had a great bar with a pool table and dart board. Rooms weren't great and John Adey complained that they had two single beds, so got moved to a double room that was so small
that you couldn't open the door without hitting the bed. He then claimed he got fleas... |

Saturday - Lord Tankards |

|
On the Saturday we played a side called Lord Tankards. We batted reasonably well. Neil Priest batted well before Neil Benn ran him out for 46 and
we got a defendable score. When we fielded this score looked excellent when Neil Benn redeemed himself by taking the first 6 (SIX) wickets so captain Steve Carter kept him on to see if he could get
all 10 and it nearly killed him. He didn't get them but the figures remain the best bowling figures by a Superstar [Ed comment - as I write - and only because I never get a long enough spell].
Unfortunately this, understandable, attempted backfired as the game that seemed tightly within our grip slipped and we fell to a loss. |

Sunday - North Devon CC |

On the Sunday we played North Devon, at Instow where we had to drive across a beach to get to and had a wonderful thatched scorebox. North Devon seemed
to think we were some high quality league outfit and so had some Minor COunties players turning out [Ed comment - yeah yeah bunch of 7 year olds i reckon]. They got a huge score and lots of our bowlers
suddenly developed bad backs and pulled muscles as their opener smashed it into Cornwall on a regular basis. It didn't help that Paul Hogg dropped a sitter but frankly we were outclassed - yet again on tour!
In reply we battled and may be oppo worked out our level a little bit too. Matt Conway and Neil Priest both acted as runners - the only time many have seen two runners on at the same time (one for Wisden).
Sian umpired and reckons they had 6 slips at one point. However with Neil Priest, Phil McBarron and Steve Meyler making decent efforts we somehow gained a rather undeserved but enjoyable draw.
This was celebrated with famous international David Shepherd in the bar (I hope we didn't end on 111). |
