Barry Gigg is Mr Superstars. But can we show that statistically? Is there evidence behind this assertion? Yes and Yes. So while elsewhere there may be nice words, thanks and fond memories of Barry's time at the club here are the basic facts laid bare. The are five main measures used to judge cricketers - the number of appearences, the number of runs scored, the number of wickets taken, the number of catches taken and the number of stumppings made. Barry tops the Superstars lists in four of the five measures. Enough said. Some people may suggest averages are a better measure but they do not show the longevity of service which, when you're struggling to get 11 players, is more important than a short sharp spell of quality.
The beginning
Barry's Superstars debut was on Tuesday 5 June 1990 at Greenwich Park in a 15 over a side match against regular, but not exactly high quality, opponents BOCs. I shall not be explaining what BOCs stands for. Barry started as he was to continue with a catch (off the bowling of skipper Pete Frost) and then 23 runs opening the batting with (more surprisingly) 2 fours and 1 six as Superstars won. We know this from the recently discovered cavewall painting below.
Barry's debut
Barry made one further appearence in 1990 and three in 1991.
