Tony "Dapper" Whitrod was for years the best turned out player in the ranks of Superstars players. His immaculate dress sense on the field of white polo shirt and black track suit bottoms regularly lulled the opposition into a false sense of security especially as his unnerving throw accuracy led to a number of batsmen suddenly finding their bails being knocked off after Tony had ineptly fielded the ball using his feet and then from deep in the depths of the countryside hit the stumps on the full.
His batting took on a similar vein. His bat at a 45 degree angle and his portly figure leaning on it as if for support would give the bowler immense confidence only for the bowler to then watch his bowling being smacked all over the park.
Tony was a stalwart for the club over a number of years and was appointed the official club grumbler in 1992 a post that he held until his last match for the club in 2007. He was also sledger in chief but only to his own players and often keen to play for the opposition. Despite walking across his stumps to virtually every delivery viewed any lbw given against him as a huge personal sleight. Great natural talent both as batsman, wicketkeeper and occasional bowler.
Tony is one the club's all round greats, with over 3,000 runs (4th in the list), 67 catches/stumpings (5th in the list), 72 wickets (13th in the list) and all in 236 appearences (4th in the list). Tony is also the only player to have scored a century and taken 5 wickets in an innings for the club.
