Mike Taylor was inducted into the Superstars Hall of Fame in 2012 when he retired from "regular season" action. At that point he was expected to still make appearences on tour but it was a fitting moment to acknowledge his long service on and off the pitch. In fact he's made fleeting "regular season" appearences in 2013 which is not only excellent but makes us wonder if he was promoted to such exalted company too soon.
Mike "Mr Scarecrow" Taylor when not scaring children with his Worzel Gummidge impressions can be found planted at point where he consistently gobbles up catches as easily as Johnny Vegas eats meat pies. Although it is not widely known he is also a professional ice hockey player as he once demonstrated when Simon Gundry got in his way when a meat pie I mean catch was up for grabs.
His left arm over the wicket bowling has been the scourge of many an oppo batsman over the years and his terrifying slower ball is so deceptive that a batsman once took a drinks break in between the ball being delivered and it arriving. Over the many years that Mike has served the team he has never forgotten the batting coaching he received from Geoffrey Boycott and sticks totally to the teachings of the Yorkshire and Barnsley legend every time he goes out to accumulate runs "You can't score runs from the pavilion".
Mike is proud to be the 2nd highest wicket taker, the highest catcher (2nd in all fielding dismissals) and 6th highest run scorer in the club's history. A great achievement by the 2nd most capped Superstar. He also holds the record for the most number of not outs of any Superstar - an award that is reflected in his regular nominations for the "average protection" award.
