With Richard Abigail playing less and less these days due to "work committments" there was a vacancy in the club for an old round great guy (or girl) that everyone liked and even Phil Patten's old school profiles couldn't slag off. Fortunately this void was filled by all round good egg Dan.
Dan spreads his cricketing time pretty thinly between Mandarins (a Sunday side equally as hapless as us) and coaching young cricketers in St. Reatham and Malborough to excellence - many at the vlub are hoping to see some of these youngsters play for Superstars before they reach ages where they'll be too good (probably about 7). For Superstars he's the energy behind the ever so successful charity 6s tournament (raising over £1,600 in two years as i write) and has secured matches against Mandarins (who have provided three close encounters so far).
On the pitch Dan is a reliable spinner in the classic English tradition of Laker, Emburey, Duggan and Such. He may occasionally leak runs (hey if he didn't he'd be playing elsewhere) but generally he does a grand job bamboozling batsmen and our own wicket keepers. I don't remember much about his fielding which suggests he's not awful but he's no Jonty Rhodes either while his batting is probably best described as "classic English tailender" but I think his highest score was against Dodgers so at least he raises himself for the big occasion. Dan is one of those guys who tends to get nominated for player of the season but never actually gets it.
Has not gained the nickname "FSC" (Future Superstars Chairman) because the nickname doesn't work and we're not that level of idiot to give such nicknames.
Dan by the end of 2018 had 66 runs, 42 wickets and 5 catches from 36 matches so whilst we'd expect him to reach the 50 wicket club soon and the 100 cap club given time the 1,000 run and 50 fielding dismissals clubs may be a dream beyond him.
