Ken Block Trophy
v RSSB, 15TH MAY 2013
SUPERSTARS STUNG BY WASPISH RSSB STINGERS
SUPERSTARS 108-7 (Meyler 25ret, Gigg 21) LOST TO
RSSB STINGERS 110-8 (Marchant 3-27, Smith 2-13, Keates 2-15)
Superstars arrived at Hampstead Heath for their first ever game against RSSB Stingers on a spongy pitch. Barry inevitably lost the toss (50% my ass) and we were asked to bat.
Perenial opener Gaught started out with captain Gigg, but Bungle got one that popped and was out for a duck. Steve joined Barry and showed all their experience by rebuilding until Barry was dismissed for 21, two short of a 50 partnership. The rest of ther innings was a mixture of collapse and end of innings slog - it's difficult to know where the first stopped and the second started. Steve retired on 25 but after that the highest scorer was Mike Duggan with 8. Guy, presumably wrongly thinking it was a wide, left the last ball of the innings to leave us on 108-7 in our 20 overs - defendable but hardly intimidating.
We needed a good start and again Jez was the one to give it to us with a superb opening spell of 4-0-15-2, backed up by the unlucky Raj. Jason was bought into the attack and continued his wicket taking form with 3 wickets, Errol keeping it tight from the other end. RSSB were ahead of the rate but with only 10 men were losing too many wickets to be secure. Unfortunately there were a couple of key dropped catches. Barry saw the wicket turning so bought on spin twins Rick and Mike D who continued the wicket taking so only one more was required - RSSB needed around 30 but the big hitting number 4 returned having retired and hit some big shots. In the end despite some scrapes RSSB sneaked home with 2 overs but only one wicket spare.
Another close finish but another loss. Still kudos to the fixture secretary on finding what should be another close game for years to come.
Superstars Line Up:
