Superstars' ship sinks after a Jolly Rogering |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
With 13 sailors available in the morning, the Superstars only managed 10
deckhands for the game. After discovering that we had all gone to the wrong ground (except Errol – who mistakenly
somehow went to the right place) some rapid Uber bookings were required and some less rapid car-pooling took place
(as Michael forgot where he parked his car). The team got off to a wobbly start as we arrived late in drips
and drabs and was promptly put into bat with 5 players in attendance. |

After Vijay, Rob, Michael and Panesh were all dismissed without
firing a cannon, at one point the team was 35-5 and feeling slightly plundered. The life boats arrived in the
form of James (14), Errol (12) and Umar (17) who manged to get the recovery going. Barry was also just getting
going when he gave himself out bowled (18) but did manage to run out Umar beforehand. The 9th and last wicket
partnership between Dan (15 not out) and Harish (16) continued to salvage the early wreckage with some strong
hitting. The innings ended with a 50 yard direct hit run out from square leg (tasty). Superstars all out for
106. |

The Pirates managed to chase the target with relative ease
(15.3 overs) with both openers retiring, extras top scoring with 30 not out (ouch) and only losing 2 wickets
before securing the win. Notable bowling performances from Harish (8 - 1) and Umar (21 - 1) with his first
wicket for the club. TFL Pirates won by 8 wickets, no booty for us this time chaps. |

Notable drop: Vijay managed to cling onto a good catch
in the deep after a practice attempt earlier in the over didn’t go so well. |

Stat: Umar being MoM on debut – for a well-played 17 with the bat
(before Barry ran him out) and his first ever Superstars wicket. |
