v MARAUDERS, 25TH AUGUST 2016
SUPERSTARS MAULED THE MARAUDERS.
The August heatwave saw Superstars take on the formidable Marauders CC, a team who scored 190 runs in their T20 match against Dodgers a month earlier, both teams were down on players but motivation was high to end the T20 season on positive note saw the contest begin. In fine form Barry lost the toss and Marauders elected to bat the first innings, Singh and Varghese opened the day's proceedings with metronomic bowling against the Marauders opening pair which included "The Darth Lord himself" Meyler... Singh's pace was too much for opener Lawrence who fell early and snuck one through "The Darth Lord's" defense for a nick which was comfortably caught by Gigg ending with figures of 3 overs, 1 maiden, 6 runs, 2 wickets. Varghese kept the batsmen searching for runs with great pace bowling taking a wicket with figures of 3 overs, 0 maidens, 13 runs, 1 wicket. With the opposition struggling Gigg decided to gift them some free runs by bringing on Plahe and Forman but both bowled economically to ensure the Marauders did not build a partnership, Plahe took 1 wicket thanks to a fine catch from "Ice-Man" Forman with figures of 3 overs, 0 maidens, 11 runs, 1 wicket. Forman was unfortunate not to take a wicket, there was a very close dropped catch in the field but "Ice-Man" ended with strong figures of 4 overs, 0 maidens, 15 runs, 0 wickets. Next came the performance from "The Sniper" Duggan and "The Little Master" Vijay, Duggan enjoyed great success bowling a solid line and length with figures of 3 overs, 0 maidens, 26 runs, 1 wicket. Vijay set straight off in attack for the middle order batsmen who couldn’t play his pace, with an LBW rejected by "The Darth Lord" Vijay speared in an identical ball which bamboozled the batsman again… Meyler confirmed the clean LBW ending with figures of 2 overs, 0 maidens, 16 runs, 1 wicket. The dynamic duo of "The Northern Comic" Bishop and "The Panther" Conway, strangled the runs for the Marauders at the death with some tight bowling and solid fielding by the team. Bishop figures of 1 over, 0 maidens, 9 runs, 0 wickets and Conway figures of 1 over, 0 maidens, 9 runs, 0 wickets. Marauders posted 106 in 20 overs, the chase was on!
Superstars began the run chase with Bishop and Conway back in the limelight scoring well off the opening bowlers. Conway played some great strokes consistently crossing the boundary line and retired with a quick fire 27 runs. Vijay approached the crease and showed the intention that he would not waste any time with the run chase, Bishop and Vijay ran hard to keep well ahead of the required rate but was out to a unusual fine bit of bowling scoring 13 runs. Vijay scored several boundaries and running hard between the wickets with Gigg to retire on 25 in quick succession. Gigg and Plahe batted together for a short time, Gigg scoring prolifically with boundaries and quick dash running. Plahe played his first off side shot this year which received a light applause from those in the dug-out but was caught behind for a quick 5 runs. Gundry came in to see off the final few runs with Gigg and dispatched the bowlers in fine form and both saw Superstars thought to Victory with 5 overs to spare with figures of 16 and 5 runs respectively. Superstars won by 5 wickets
