Ken Block Trophy
v FELTHAM, 24 MAY 2011
SUPERSTARS SHAKEN BUT NOT STIRRED
Feltham 179-4 (Trivedi 2-40) BEAT
Superstars 175-5 (Gautam 59 Gigg 38, Meyler 25) by 4 runs.
(Please note that the ground is not actually in the young offenders' place, it's actually a MOD place so we've decided they are all spies)
Superstars arrived at Feltham with a licence to kill the Feltham side who'd beaten them last year. Barry duly lost the toss and we were fielding. Jeremy and Roy opened the bowling. Unfortunately the guy who'd scored a 100 against us last year was in top form again, hitting the ball so far they had to be thrown back from Russia with love. He was dropped, i guess you only live twice, but batted most of the innings. He truly was the man with the golden gun, opps, bat. Given the circumstances Jeremy's 4-0-23-0 and Roy's 4-0-34-0 were a quantum of solace. There was a truly hilarious run out which included a drop catch, an over throw and a good bit of work from Mike "Q" Taylor. Mike then joined the bowling ranks and despite bagging a maiden (not Moneypenny) struggled the halt the (thunder)ball going around the ground (4-1-31-0), as did Himashu (2-0-17-0). It was left to debutant Raj Trivedi in a promising display to pick up the wickets, our friend out bowled for 96 and then the umpire gave their number four the goldfinger, LBW. Raj finished with 4-0-40-2 while the slog was on, and Steve Evison's figures of 2-0-26-0 were for your eyes only. Feltham had made an imposing 179 for 4 in their 20 overs.
Paul and Adam opened the batting, these guys are diamonds forever. Unfortunately Adam got one that kept low and was bowled for 5. Barry "Doctor No that isn't a run" Gigg joined Paul and both were playing well until Paul tried to smack one so (Mister) big he missed it and was stumped (23). Nick Allen made a fleeting trip to the wicket and then Himanshu joined Barry in a partnership that kept our heroes in the match. The rate required was around 10 or 11 an over but lusty blows (who, i checked, isn't a bond girl) from Himanshu and constant running from Barry kept us in it. When Barry looped a catch (38) we needed 74 in 6.5 overs, at which point entered Stever Meyler with a view to a kill. Now it was all big hitting, until Steve was out for 25. Steve Evison joined Himanshu and kept the team going but the ask was just too much. Himashu was run out attempting to keep his team in it for an excellent 59. Steve ended 12 not out, with Raj hitting his first ever Superstars run (1 no). We lost by four runs.
An excellent effort, where lesser teams wouldn't have even tried to chase the target we tried our luck in the Casino Royale and almost made it. We certainly didn't Blo(feld) it. The team then were well represented in the pub, where Honor Blackman wasn't present. Oh well tomorrow never dies.....
