SUPERSTARS FADE TO TROPHY LOSS. |

Barry, true to form, lost the toss and after a five minute deliberation
between the Dodgers chose to bat first on a good looking wicket. Sandeep KC and Chris Mountain opened the bowling and
Chris made an early breakthrough trapping the opener LBW. On a bouncy outfield the fielding was inconsistent with several
tough (and some less tough) chances going down, the highlights being Chris Mountain getting ‘snipered’ at mid-wicket;
slipping and then kicking the ball away and Matt Conway almost corkscrewing himself into the ground under a high catch.
On the other hand there was a terrific direct hit from Mehboob to bring up the second wicket and Konrad calmly gathered
and threw to the bowlers end for our third wicket. Gary was also unlucky not to pick up a wicket as he was the victim of
a few dropped chances later on. Some tight bowling from Sandeep G, Konrad and Vijay meant it looked like we would keep the
score under 140. But after an expensive last three overs which included a few tight wide decisions meant the Dodgers
ended up with an imposing 155-3. |

The reply got off to the worst possible start when Mehboob was caught behind
first ball, so early that the majority of those watching including Chris scoring had to ask what had happened. Vijay came in at 3,
him and Matt started to build a solid partnership with boundaries coming easily. After putting on well over 50 between them Matt
was caught skying a shot and soon after George followed in the same fashion. Chris came together with Vijay and got things
moving again before being run out with a sharp piece of work and an eagle eyed umpire who didn’t need to ask for any tv replay.
Vijay then retired after an excellent 50 which had included a huge six. Gary and Sandeep G were together for the last 4 overs
and despite some good hitting still needed 32 from the last 2 overs. After a good over it was 18 off the last of where sadly
only 4 singles were scrambled meaning a 13 run defeat. |
