Ken Block Trophy
v LT DINOS, 16 AUGUST 2011
SUPERSTARS EXTINCTLY BETTER THAN DINOS
Superstars 149-8 (Spencer 37no, Gaught 28ret) BEAT
LT Dinos 104-4 by 45 runs.
Superstars visited stylish Barnes to play old adversaries LT Dinos. Ignoring the temptation to simply wander into the Wetland Centre next door Barry won the toss and elected to bat.
With a very useful Dinos fast bowler Superstars struggled to begin with. Byes were the top scorer and Mountain and Bollington were dismissed. Gaught and Spencer rebuilt, first by surviving the opening bowler and then by taking on the follow up bowlers, both retired. Superstars then upped the attacking intent but lost wickets with it, there were decent innings by Himanshu and Coleman. In the last over there was the rare sight of clever cricket by Superstars where Roy calmly ensured he took a quick and quiet single to allow Adam (who had returned) to smack two fours and induce two wides (worth two each). Superstars made 149.
In the mid game break most the Superstars watched the fancy dress match being played on the other square, we were later to find out that Batman's team beat Robin's team. Bananaman looked a tidy player but Captain America struggled.
Superstars walked out knowing 150 was a decent score but a good start was vital. Luckily we were gifted with two excellent opening bowlers bowling very well. Roy was excellent with 3-1-6-0 and Jeremy not much worse, although wicketless this was probably the spell that later won the match. LT were in 8 or 9 an over territory now. Ben Coleman (3 overs for 7, i believe) and Ian Moxon (3 overs for, i dunno 15-20?) were next up and the rate required kept rising, the LT Dinos' openers were struggling against some high quality England style seam bowling. Next up were Raj Trivedi and Chris Mountain who simply had to ensure nothing silly happened. There were a couple of run outs, an excellent ball got Raj a wicket (bowled) and Himashu took an excellent one handed catch in the gully off Chris' bowling. In the end LT were around 45 short and always behind the rate.
One of the best performances of the season from Superstars, followed up by drinks and expensive chips in the excellent Red Lion pub and Adam calculating his new average. It was particularly amusing to see the faces of some the patrons would may be been in the pub too long when various comic book and cartoon characters walked in.
