Great match yesterday against DCMS at Chiswick, tight bowling from us and some amazing run outs, 2 direct hits and one where Mountain dived to tip a drive into the umpire and looked up to see the ball, a writhing official and two batsmen all with touching distance - very odd. Some big hitting from their tail left us with 174 to chase off 35 overs. Phil and Will made the early running but we were behind the rate when Matt replaced Will after he was caught in the deep for 18. A partnership of 80ish followed, with Matt in good form and Phil grafting hard. Phil lollipopped one to fall for 34 and Matt followed soon after for 60ish. Mark Williams and Steve consolidated our position but when Mark fell for 10 we needed about 50 off 6 overs. Batting with a sore finger Mountain raced into the 30s with several lusty leggy blows before being run out tired. Rob Fox strode to the middle with 3 required off 9 balls and kept us fingernail nibbling until the 3rd last ball, which he slapped through the covers to secure a tight and memorable win over friendly and competitive opposition. |
