HONOURS EVEN AS SUPERSTARS WIN ONE, LOSE ONE AT ROEHAMPTON |
A planned four team tournament was reduced to three, |
by the frustratingly late withdrawl of the team from HMT. |
Supers opened up the day by taking on the hosts, |
Never having beaten them, looking to expel ghosts. |
Bank batted well as Keates complained the ball just wasn't swervin' |
Thankfully to the rescue came our very own Guv'nor Mervyn. |
Merv's tidy spell from the building site end was the best we'd ever seen, |
Leaving our lenghty batting order to chase a par(ish) one-nineteen. |
Vijay and Meyler bashed and boshed - a solid opening pair, |
With Walker and Bartlett following up with undisputed flair. |
Our opening four scored ninety five - keeping well above the rate, |
Leaving Gaught and Mountain to nurdle home with victory on a plate. |
Speaking of plates - the one moot point - that jarred with Poppy and me, |
Was the shocking and heart-breaking withdrawl of the provision of the tea. |
So moving on - Bank went back out to face Dragons KAI, |
And won coz Dragons couldn't get a last ball four to tie. |
The final game saw Dragons get 139 - batting well and riding their luck, |
The only solace for Superstars was running their skipper out for a duck. |
Vijay starred again with bat - and Thornton weighed in too, |
But with run-outs and good bowling, the apprehension grew. |
The last ball came came - and returning for three - Roy came up just short, |
Following in the footsteps of the previously run-out captain Gaught. |
The team was left dejected - rueing what could have been, |
Roy'd managed two - but truth be told - he'd needed seventeen. |
