Ken Block Trophy
2013 FIXTURE PREVIEW
This year the focus of the nation, if not the world, will not be on the Olympic Stadium but will be on a great cricketing rivalry taking place on Wednesday 10th July. On that momentus day Superstars will take on great rivals Dodgers in the afternoon match of the three match Ken Block Trophy series. It's a day circled in ever cricket lover's diary. On the same day some relatively minor match will begin - something called the "First Ashes Test". Yeah I've never heard of it either.
Anyway, this year we have a (which can be seen fixture list of 33 matches), I hope we can raise 11 players for all of them (except may be the 6-a-side ones).
No doubt many players and fans will first look out for our Ken Block Trophy games against 'rivals' Dodgers which will take place on Thursday 23rd May, Tuesday 6th August and (as mentioned above) Wednesday 10th July. Obviously we hope to retain the trophy in these games after last year's tempetuous matches.
After last year's awful weather we have numerous new opponents (some of which were scheduled but never got the prestigue of playing the great Superstars in 2012). New opponents are TfL Pirates, RSSB, Commons Old Boys, Richmond Anchors and National Archives.
This year we have 9 afternoon matches scheduled, which compares favourably for the cricketing purist against the 5 we ended up playing in 2011. In addition we have 20 evening Twenty20 matches, 1 Twenty20 afternoon tournament and three 6 or 8-a-side tournaments. Games span from 3nd May to 29th August.
Finally it's worth pointing out the tour covers four games and might well be the pinnacle of the season, especially if the weather doesn't spoil it. We attempt to return to Hambledon, the cradle of cricket, as well as fixtures at Tichborne Park, Plums CC in Winchester and East Meon.
I look forward to seeing you, remember the close-season is far too long so get involved before it's all too late!
